As a National Award-Winning photographer, Bruisyard Country Estate remains one of my absolute favorite venues in Suffolk. There is a distinct sense of "home" here, from the historic Bruisyard Hall to the magnificent 14th-century barn, it offers a level of elegance and privacy that is hard to match.

What makes Bruisyard stand out for wedding photography and film is the sheer variety of backdrops. Whether you are planning a grand black-tie celebration or a more intimate, rustic gathering, the estate adapts beautifully.

• The Hall. The drawing rooms and grand staircase make an elegant setting for getting ready. If you're staying in the Hall, the top floor landing has lovely natural light for those last "putting the dress on" moments.

• The barn. High ceilings and pale stone bounce the light around, which is ideal for the ceremony and speeches.

• The lake and the sloping fields. The best spot for golden hour couple portraits, with plenty of room to wander.

• The courtyard at night. Festoon lights look brilliant for a sparkler exit or late evening photos.

Light, timings and wet weather

In summer, golden hour lands late in the evening, so a short break between dinner and the dancing is perfect for portraits by the lake. In autumn and winter, the light goes early, so I'll usually suggest portraits straight after the ceremony. If it rains, the Hall and the barn have plenty of spots that still work, and I know where they are.​
