Abbie & Craig's Wedding at Bassmead Manor Barns, Cambridgeshire
Updated: Sep 22
Abbie and Craig got married at Bassmead Manor Barns in Staploe, just outside St Neots in Cambridgeshire. It's a bit further west than most of my weddings, and it was well worth the drive.
About Bassmead Manor Barns
Bassmead sits inside an old medieval moat, surrounded by farmland. The main building is a 300-year-old beamed barn, and alongside it there's the Bridge Barn, a much lighter, more contemporary space, plus a thatched bower in the gardens for outdoor ceremonies. It takes between 50 and 150 guests, has its own catering team and has accommodation on site.
Photographing a wedding at Bassmead
What I like about Bassmead is the mix. The old barn is all dark oak beams and warm tones, which looks lovely in the evening, while the Bridge Barn and the gardens give you plenty of light during the day. With the moat and landscaped gardens right there, you don't have to go far for couple portraits, so you're never away from your guests for long.
If you're planning an outdoor ceremony under the thatched bower, talk to the venue about the wet weather plan early on. Knowing exactly where everything moves to if it rains takes a lot of stress out of the morning.
