Abbot's Hall Weddings at the Food Museum, Stowmarket: A Photographer's Guide
Updated: Sep 22
Abbot's Hall is the wedding venue at the Food Museum in Stowmarket, which used to be called the Museum of East Anglian Life. It's right in the middle of Suffolk, and it's one of the more unusual venues I work at.

The setting
The museum sits on an 84-acre estate with 17 historic buildings. There's an 18th-century watermill that was taken apart and rebuilt on the site, a 19th-century windpump, and a medieval barn that's the oldest building in Stowmarket. Abbot's Hall itself is a Grade II* listed Queen Anne house. For photos, that means a huge amount of variety without ever leaving the venue.

Why it works so well for photos
Couples can bring their own suppliers, so the day can look however you want it to. There are spaces for small winter weddings, like the dining room and conservatory, as well as bigger summer celebrations out on the estate.
My tip: the estate is big, so decide in advance which two or three spots you'd like for couple portraits and group shots. It saves a lot of walking and keeps you close to your guests.
