Cody & Mitch’s Hedingham Castle Wedding: A Royal Love Story

Updated: Oct 10

When Cody and Mitch chose Hedingham Castle for their wedding, they were drawn by its history, romance, and grandeur. The day unfolded in three beautiful chapters: the ceremony in the castle’s Banqueting Hall, a drinks reception on the castle lawns, and an evening celebration in the Ballroom Marquee.

A Ceremony Steeped in History

Inside the castle’s Banqueting Hall, framed by the grand double-height archway and flickering candlelight, Cody and Mitch exchanged their vows in a truly timeless setting. The stone walls, high ceilings, and historic ambiance lent such weight and elegance to the moment.

Guests looked on from rows of chairs, with the light subtly glowing, and the couple’s emotions were palpable. It was intimate, dramatic, and full of the character Hedingham Castle is loved for.

Sunshine and Celebration on the Lawns

After the ceremony, the newlyweds stepped out into the open air for a relaxed drinks reception. Hedingham’s gardens and sweeping lawns became the stage for laughter, clinking glasses, and candid moments.

Couples strolled across the green expanses, guests mingled near flower beds, and children played by old walls. The castle façade provided a stunning backdrop. It’s days like this that show why Hedingham is so magical — the transition from inside to outside feels seamless and majestic.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was when the entire bridal party came together for the most amazing champagne spray. Corks popped, bubbles flew, and the reactions were priceless; pure celebration captured in a single unforgettable moment.

Dancing the Night Away in the Ballroom Marquee

As evening approached, guests moved into the Ballroom Marquee, nestled beside the castle. Soft uplighting and tasteful decor set the tone for a festive yet elegant night.

Dinner was served under delicate chandeliers, speeches made hearts swell, and the dance floor came alive. Cody and Mitch’s first dance seemed to float across the space, their joy echoed by friends and family. The marquee offered the perfect balance: shelter, grandeur, and a sense of celebration.

Why Hedingham Castle Works So Well

Hedingham offers a rare combination: centuries of architectural beauty wrapped in a venue that can host all parts of the day. Ceremony in the castle, reception on the lawns, and party under a marquee — you get the best of historic charm and event flexibility. The grounds, rooms, and views all complement each other, giving couples varied settings without leaving the venue.

Advice for Couples Planning at Hedingham

1. Book a Site Visit

Walking through the banqueting hall, gardens, and marquee in person helps you visualise your flow. It’s essential to feel the space.

2. Lighting Matters

The stone interiors benefit from gentle, warm uplighting. It creates a lovely atmosphere for your special day.

3. Use the Outdoors Wisely

Schedule time for portraits on the lawns. The castle walls, gardens, and steps are storybook settings that deserve to be captured.

4. Timing Transitions

Allow a buffer when moving guests from the castle to the gardens to the marquee. You want everyone to feel relaxed, not rushed.

Capturing the Magic of Your Day

Every wedding is unique, and capturing those special moments is what I love to do. Whether it’s the laughter during the champagne spray or the tender glances during the first dance, I aim to document it all authentically.
