Siobhan & Griffin's Wedding at Sissons Barn, Peterborough
Updated: Sep 22
When I arrived for bridal prep at Siobhan and Griffin's wedding, I met Nick, my second photographer for the day, and we both said the same thing: it looked like rain. Sure enough, just as Siobhan was ready to get into the car for the church, the heavens opened.
It didn't dampen anything. Walking into the church, the welcome from everyone there was so warm that nobody was thinking about the weather. Once the ceremony was over we grabbed some quick shots of the two of them outside the church, then headed on to Sissons Barn.
About Sissons Barn
Sissons Barn is in Peakirk, just outside Peterborough, out in the flat Fenland countryside. It's an exclusive-use barn with landscaped lawns around it, taking up to 100 guests for a ceremony and 120 for dinner.
The Fens are all about big skies. When the weather clears you get huge open views and soft, even light, which works really well for couple portraits out on the lawns.
When it rains on your wedding day
Rain is part of getting married in England, and it's rarely as bad as couples fear. A few clear umbrellas, a bit of flexibility in the timings and a photographer who's happy to work with the weather go a long way. Having a second photographer helps on a day like this too, as one of us can stay with the couple while the other covers the guests and the venue.
